He was still trying to deal with the conditions he was held in for 2 years he was away. He took Cara to a hotel and they tried to deal with their past and present. She needed his help to get away from her abusive father. He needed to marry her so his father would leave her alone. That didn't work, his father the mafia don got to her.

This was so good I couldn't put ut down the things they went through with their fathers was unthinkable glad they got back together
Another exciting and romantic read.
Val and Cara were torn apart by circumstances neither could control. When they come face to face again love and resentments surface. After some troubles they find their true happiness
Loved the characters and the story. Val and Cara grew up in the same town, they had gotten together, she was pregnant. Val disappeared for two years, Cara lived with her daughter and her abusive father and needed to get away. She didn't know Val was in prison for two years having been betrayed by the mob. Val didn't know Cara and he had a daughter. Needing to get away from her abusive father, she decided to ask Val for help. Need to get this book to find the end of the story.
Didn't really like this one. No ... I hated it to be honest.

The story dragged and dragged. I found myself skimming pages just to get to the action. Too much detail to the wrong things and a slow story pace. There was no real substance to Val and Cara's love story; just that that they had sex two years ago that produced a child. That's it. No how they meet, how they fell in love, nothing. It made their connection flimsy and see through. It gave the story an false feeling because based on the plot Cara was under her controlling and abusive fathers thumbs 24/7 ... How could she have enough time to fall in love and have sex with a mobsters son and get pregnant? It just didn't add up.

Cara's habit of taking to herself was very very annoying and frustrating. To the point that I wanted to throw my phone every time it happened. And it happened more than it should. For goodness sake, the story is told in her POV. Seriously this what you get from this story

It's been a while since I've been in a tub this clean and this big. I can't believe how good it feels.
"Come on little girl" I said to myself out loud "finish up this bath and get a move on it"

WTF !!!

I'm dead serious that's exactly how Cara's is through out the the whole book. Talk about weird. Val's character wasn't any better. He talked and talked and talked and talked about how much of a beast he was and how he needed revenge and yada yada yada but there was absolutely no action behind it. His POV just seemed like a bunch a of ramblings. On the same page he insisted he was a "caged animal ready to be released" he talked about how much he pretending to be a mob boss in front of his crew. I didn't get it. Such a contradiction.

The story is called "A Phantom's Baby" yet the baby is barley even mentioned. Like it would have made the story so much better had there actually been progress in Val and his daughters relationship. During the whole story, the kid is always either sleep or alone in a room with toys. She freaking two. And what the hell was the author thinking with the name Kitty? Also it PISSED me off that Cara would lie to Val's face and tell him Kitty is her sister. She was living in Val's house and she lied to his face denying the fact that Kitty was his daughter, she even got the kid to call her own father "uncle Val". I HATE crap like that. That's not a real women fictional or not.

Yeah, I hated it.
This well-written book has every possible thing a reader of dark, mafia romance wants in a book... angst, danger, secrets, violence, anger, suspense, revenge, betrayal, traitors, an abusive father, a dark and dirty bad boy, hot sex, second chances, a great story-line, and characters you can empathize with.

Phantom's Baby by Holly Hart....This book grips you on the first page and doesn't let go until the end. This story is full of suspense, thrilling and wonderful characters. This was my first book by Holly Hart and I can't wait to read more. Looking for an exciting story at a great price you will love this one. I was given a complimentary book for an honest review.
