It could just as easily take place in Portland, Austin, or Hartford. Like most really good cozies, the quirky cast of characters will strike a chord. Many of us are suckers for all-things-gardening so that makes this book well-nigh perfect. My favorite feature is the online blog with fantastic tips and hilarious comments. And my tip for Ms Loveday?  Don't keep us waiting too long for the second mystery in this series. I for one can't wait to see what happens next for Emma, Free, and friends!

I really enjoyed this book. The pacing was good -- the book always held my interest, with some plot twists here and there. Her characters are well-developed and believable. I also learned a bit about organic gardening and I am always up for learning new things. I think Yvonne Loveday is a very skilled author and am looking forward to reading her next book.
I really enjoyed this book. There is such a great and varied cast of characters, I look forward to catching up with their shenanigans in future outings. What surprised me the most was how much I learned about living a truly green lifestyle. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the narrative with the informative blog posts interspersed between chapters. It put an interesting twist on the smallish town Southern mystery genre.
Just finished this murder mystery - I was dying for a summer read and my wishes were answered by this surprise of a novel whose miles is the rapidly growing city I called home for 8 years. The characters were believable and fascinating and I kept wondering if I actually knew any of them. I was very connected to the main characters, cheering on their green permaculture activist lifestyle, and wishing I could join in! As a long time gardener, I was thrilled by the descriptions of gardening techniques- accurately but creatively inserted into the novel. Anyway, as with all good reads, I was reluctant to say goodbye to Emma and Free- hoping there will be a sequel so I can continue to follow their endeavors.
I was surprised how funny this book is. The plot is also well crafted and it wraps up in a satisfying way. The author affectionately lampoons the "live green" culture. The lead characters are likable and the secondary characters amusing. I especially liked the confrontations between the conservatives and the pagans. The book is tightly written and moves at a good pace (while a few of the main characters' blog posts are long, the comments section is always funny.). If you enjoy farmers' markets and anything related to homesteading, you will be delighted with this book.
With a wonderful "green" message, Live Green or Die Trying is an entertaining and quick read. The diverse and yet true to life mix of characters, written in such a witty and engaging fashion that you could easily believe them to be your friends, neighbours or co-workers, will have you laughing and crying along with them as the mystery unfolds.

The central message that sustainability is a choice that we can all make, carries through the ups & downs and twists & turns of the plot and makes for a very interesting and informative story. The first things I wanted to do after finishing reading was sign up to the (unfortunately only fictional) blog and run out and plant a new garden.

Fantastic and inspiring first book Ms Loveday, Very enjoyable and one I am sure to re read. Already looking forward to the next book in the series as Emma and Free's greening adventures continue.
I really enjoyed this book. The main reason I got the book is because I share a Ravelry group and am friends on Facebook with the author.

Yvonne did a wonderful job with this, her first book. The charters were well rounded and fully believable. I will have to trust that she described the city well as I haven't been to Knoxville myself. I loved the interaction between the different communities as well as the descriptions of the greening of the communities.

I am looking forward to the next book she is writing.
Hilarious! A really engaging and fun read. A higher quality of writing than I'm used to seeing in cozies. What a pleasant surprise. Gardeners, local eaters, slow food advocates, and green people will especially enjoy this romp through scruffy Knoxville, TN and the trials faced by struggling urban farmers. All events are overshadowed by the tacky and iconic golden Sunsphere, the wacky ruin that was abandoned when the World's Fair left town.
